About Preterm Birth

Preterm birth is when a baby is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Babies that are born preterm may have health problems, such as lung or brain damage and problems with vision.

According to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, women who have had previous preterm births are more likely to have another preterm birth in later pregnancies. Generally, babies that are born after 37 weeks of gestation are likely to be more healthy.
